St. Patrick’s Day WA Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Perth, Western Australia. In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day is marked by tradition and culture, and across the world on March 17th people don a shade of green and celebrate their own sense of ‘Irishness’.
Irish Families in Perth (IFIP) founded a committee (St. Patrick’s Day WA Inc.) in 2012 to take responsibility to revitalise St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the city and to create a family orientated, multicultural event with an emphasis on community involvement.
Chairperson - Olan Healy
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of our 2021 St Patrick’s Day Festival in Perth, Western Australia.
Due to the escalation of the restrictions on events in Perth over the last month, the difficulty to plan a safe community event has increased immensely. This week’s outbreak will inevitably lead to a revision of all event guidelines leading to a Covid-19 event plan subject to change too close to the festival date.
One of the primary goals of the festival is to celebrate the Irish culture in a warm vibrant way, through song, dance, a handshake, or a hug shrouded in green. Unfortunately, restrictions do not align with such a gathering and the wellbeing and safety of the community is our number one priority. The committee feels that to proceed with the event in such an uncertain climate is irresponsible.
On a positive note, our fundraising effort over the last 12 months has been well supported and we thank everyone involved. The committee hopes to host a golf day mid-year and once again hold our Halloween Ball in October to continue fundraising towards an epic 2022 event. We hope that next year’s festival can be planned to full capacity and back on the streets of Leederville to bring the community together and celebrate all things Irish.
Once again thank you for your ongoing support. We encourage everyone to safely support our local bars and clubs during the St Patrick’s Day celebrations around Perth in March. One of the best things about being Irish is the ability to come together in times of hardship and give back and support one another.
Go raibh maith agaibh
